God continues to work at the children's camp in Romania!

The window of opportunity to minister through the children's camp is closing. Only two more days remain...but God is faithful, and continues to draw the children to hear about Jesus - and He has provided good weather! Please continue to pray for the team and all of those who will be touched by the gospel. Be sure to enjoy the pictures, and any comments you send will be forwarded direct to the team. More than 375 children at camp in Romania!

Brad Akins, team leader for the mission team in Jibou, Romania, reported there were more than 375 children today - at the second day of camp. Also, they have a prayer request regarding transportation. One of the vans, that is integral as a ministry tool, has experienced some severe mechanical difficulties - read this as broken down beyond repair! Pray that the team will have wisdom in dealing with the situation, and that God will provide what is needed.

Continue to pray that the Spirit of God will draw these children to Himself. Also, that evangelistic contacts can be made with the families of the non-Christian children in attendance. In this picture you see the "wealth" of children God has brought to this camp so they can hear about the love of Jesus Christ for them.

Jibou, Romania mission team

The WorldReach team from First Baptist Church Winder, Georgia is now in Jibou, Romania where they are working and leading a camp for children in partnership with Jibou Baptist Church. Romania has been experiencing flood causing rains, and the camp ground was too saturated to use...until dump truck loads of gravel were brought in to solve the problem! Please pray for the children attending the camp as overwhelmingly most come from the homes of non-Christian families. Enjoy the pictures, and check back regularly for updates as God continues to work in Romania!

Yes...those are "smores" in the pictures below...after all, how can you have a camp without them!

Utah mission team update

From Monticello, Utah, Brother Barry Shettel sends us this update:

Everything is going well at First Baptist Church, Moticello, Utah. The van is "officially" home now and sports two new Utah tags. It has also been used for VBS and the ladies are taking it to a women's conference real soon.

VBS started Monday with sixty-seven children. That's a very good start for here in Monticello.

Below are some photos.

This is the van that the PABC Student Ministry allowed God to use them in providing it for our partner church in Monticello. It was a true act of obeying God, by faith.

In the early years of the partnership, the number children who attended VBS were few in this town with a population of about 2000. But God has grown this ministry and it is a joy to be able to see the growth...not only in the number of children who attend, but church members who commit themselves to working in this annual ministry.

Peru church plant update and worship service pictures

Pastor Carlos Baca sends us this update about our new church plant in Lima, Peru:

God is truly working here in Lima, Peru. On Saturday July 19th, we had five people baptized. On Sunday July 20th, we had the first worship service with 24 people present. During this service we handed out baptism certificates and a book to each candidate that had been baptized the day before. We also awarded Brother Jesus Loo with his certificate from the Bible Training Centre for Pastors. At the Sunday service we had the Lord´s Supper and also worshiped the Lord with tithes and offering. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the brothers and sisters. I was able to present Brother Jesus as the leader of this new church plant, and pray for him and the mission. Next Tuesday, July 22nd, we will continue having Bible study and on the Saturday July 26th, we will have a college prayer meeting.

Please keep Brother Jesus and his family in your prayers and also the mission down here.

All for His glory,

Carlos Baca

PS - We hope you enjoy these pictures from the worship service.

WorldReach to partner in new ministry to Chinese in Athens, GA

We request you pray for the new ministry to Chinese in Athens being jointly sponsored by WorldReach and Prince Avenue Hispanic Baptist Mission (PAHBM). Pastor Yip, Pastor to the Chinese congregation at FBC Lilburn (Georgia), will lead the bible study that is to begin August 10th.

Yolanda Baca, wife of Carlos Baca who pastors PAHBM, is Chinese. In fact, Pastor Yip planted the church in Lima, Peru where Pastor Baca was saved. God brought them together at a church planting conference in April of this year. Neither of these men had ever met before; Pastor Yip having immigrated to the United States a number of years before Pastor Baca was born again. You can imagine the joy of their first encounter...and how they sensed God at work to bring them together as partners in this new ministry for His glory.

While the inital meeting place for the Chinese ministry has been nailed down, we are still working out where the weekly bible studies are to be held. Your prayers are needed for all of those who will be reached through this ministry, and for all of the logistical details yet to be finalized.

As with all that we do at WorldReach, we need you to undergird it with prayer. Jesus said He will build His church...and we want to make certain that we do not get in His way!

Where's Your Treasure?

Missionaries amaze me. I will never forget a testimony by a missionary couple who left the United States to serve in Japan. They could only take personal items that would fit into one shipping crate. Everything else had to be left behind. The wife shared her story of how she went through her home and decided which belongings they would take with them. The thought from Scripture came to her “Where’s your treasure?”

Kay Arthur, founder of Precept Ministries, shares a similar story about the time she and her family left to serve in Mexico as missionaries. The real test for her came when they held a sale at their home:

We ran an ad in the newspaper that essentially said we were going to Mexico as missionaries and everything in our home was for sale. Although I can’t remember what scripture we used twenty-nine years ago, I do recall including in the ad a biblical basis for “selling it all.” People converged upon our home, looking for bargains. And bargains they found. In the midst of strangers rummaging through my closets and cupboards a friend took me aside and said, “Kay, don’t do this. Don’t sell everything. Just put it in storage. Who knows, God may not let you stay in Mexico!”
Her words jarred me a little. The thought had never occurred to me. To that point, leaving Mexico hadn’t even entered my mind. Yet even as I paused to consider my friend’s counsel, the words of Matthew 6:19 flooded my heart, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth. . . .” The momentary doubt faded from my mind. Earthly treasures had to go. I could not go to Mexico with my heart in storage.
Are you going through life with your heart in storage? As you responded to the call of the Lord Jesus in your life did you forget that it meant giving up your right to your self and to your things? Sometimes I’m afraid that we miss the joy of the Lord in our life because we are holding onto stuff. In Mark 10:29-30, Jesus said “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, but that he shall receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.” What a promise! Please pray how the Lord may be urging you to give up stuff for His glory and honor. Praise God!

God's People Shining in the Darkness

the following is an update from Christian workers bringing aid to the victims of Cylcone Nargis in Burma (Myanmar) and working with Operation Mobilization:

“The Cyclone Nargis brought a lot of devastation. In Burma, we have many people groups, the Bamar, the majority people, Karen, Chin, Ka Chin, Shan, Mon, Wa, Arakan, Rohingya, and other minority groups.

However, we are seeing God work through the Cyclone, as many local churches and Christians have gone to the Delta area to give rice, clothing, medicine and cooking utensils. As foreign aid has not been encouraged or allowed, our local Christians have taken up the call to go to help.

For many people in the Delta area, it is the first time that they have seen a Karen Christian or a Chin Christian. We look different from the Barma, Shan and others. There has been a history of bad feeling between our tribes, but now is the time for us to help and bring reconciliation. We have been blessed by God in this time to reach and bless the people.

“Although the suffering and devastation is very bad, we see God moving in our land. We are poor, but whatever we have, we can share with those in need.”

Continue to pray for believers in this region. Many are not only dealing with their own personal losses, but also trying to help their neighbors and communities.

Historic event upcoming in Lima, Peru

Pastor Carlos Baca, Prince Avenue Hispanic Baptist Mission, travels to Lima, Peru today where he will be baptizing two believers. Why is this so historic? Because these are the first baptisms for the new church plant begun in April of this year!

Please pray for Mision Bautista en Peru, and for the time Pastor Baca will be spending there encouraging, evangelizing, and discipling.
